Do you need to be a certified professional in order to give nutritional/fitness advice?

In minnesota can a person give out nutrition/fitness advice as a type of consultant if he/she does not posess a certification in Nutrition or personal trainer. I’m contemplating become a diet/exercise consultant and I’m taking some courses, but these will not get me certified. I’m just wondering legally if this can be done without the certifications. I know in most states you don’t need the certifications.

I don’t know if it is legal, but I do wonder how successful you will be. I would never go to a consultant who did not have established certifications or licenses. The more credentials you have the more valued your advice will be to people.

I’m a Lebanese girl studding nutrition, I’m a junior student and i learned from my doctors in the university not to give any advice or prescription to any of my relatives or friends because any wrong information especially for a diseased person my lead to many unfavorable conflicts and may affect his/her health .so please don’t try it.

No you don’t have to be certified as long as you don’t “guarantee this will work!”

No you do not need to be certified. The problem is, people only follow the advise for a few days, then they go back to their old ways. As a former manager of a weight control center I have tried to help numerous individuals and not one has ever followed my advise. So forget about it. People don’t listen until they hit bottom. Don’t mean to be negative about it, it’s just the way it is.
